Chhattisgarh: A Maoist couple surrendered to the IG (Bastar Range), P Sundarraj, in Chhattisgarh on Thursday after testing positive for COVID-19.
The surrendered Maoists were identified as Arjun Tati and Laxmi Pada of Pratapur area committee in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh. They had several police cases registered against them.
According to sources, they had tested COVID positive and were looking for treatment in villages.
When their condition deteriorated, they were left with no option but to surrender, the sources added.
The two were then admitted to a COVID hospital in Kanker.
The IG said since the couple has laid down arms, the government will provide all facilities for their rehabilitations.
He also requested other Maoists to surrender and join the mainstream.
