Malkangiri: A complete shutdown was imposed in Malkangiri municipality area from 8 pm on Friday. The clampdown will remain in force till Sunday (july 5) midnight.
Malkangiri Collector Manish Agarwal said the shutdown was imposed to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission in the area because people were not following the guidelines.
“We are forced to take this decision as people crowd the markets and do not maintain social distancing norms,” the collector said. He, however, added that positive cases in the district were under control.
He informed that all shops except medicine stores will remain closed during the shutdown.
The district administration has also appointed nodal officers for each ward in Malkangiri municipality area for supervision and smooth facilitation of essential services during the shutdown.
The collector requested people to cooperate with the administration and contact the nodal officers in case of emergencies.
