Berhampur: A COVID-19 Special Isolation Centre, exclusively for media personalities and their family members, has been opened in Odisha’s Berhampur on Sunday.
The centre, opened by Berhampur Press Club, has eight beds and can accommodate two to three families.
President of Berhampur Press Club, Sisir Panigrahi said “We are trying to equip the centre with oxygen cylinders, pulse oximeters, infra-red thermometer guns and other devices to facilitate the scribes and their family members who prefer to isolate themselves after showing COVID symptoms.”
Panigrahi said most of the media personalities reside in compact houses and it is very difficult for them to isolate from other family members.
During last year, eight journalists of Berhampur tested COVID positive and they had to face immense problems during home isolation. During the second wave, three local journalists tested COVID positive.
Efforts were also made to set up the centre last year but it could not materialise due to some issues, Panigrahi added.
