Patnagarh: The number of the COVID-19 cases in the sub-jail at Patnagarh in Balangir district rose to 84 after another 33 inmates tested positive on Monday.
Last week, 51 inmates had tested positive for COVID-19.
Following this, a team of doctors conducted COVID testing of the remaining inmates in the presence of the Balangir Collector, Chanchal Rana, the Patnagarh Sub-collector, Somnath Jena, and the jailor on Sunday. The test reports received the next day confirmed that 33 more inmates were afflicted with the virus.
Meanwhile, eight infected inmates were admiited to the COVID Care Centre in Balangir and 29 prisoners were shifted to the sub-jail at Kantabanjhi.
The jail premises have been sanitized to contain the spread of the virus, sources said.
