COVID-19: BJP Demands TMCs For Odia Migrant Workers; Test Results On Phone

Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Sunday urged the Odisha government to set up temporary medical centres (TMCs) for migrant Odia workers.

Briefing the media here, BJP state president Samir Mohanty said the state government had set up TMCs for the migrant workers returning from the neighbouring states during the first wave of COVID-19 last year. But, it has not made any such provisions during the second wave this year.

The state government should immediately take steps to set up the TMCs in each panchayat for quarantine, testing and treatment of migrant workers, Mohanty said.

To contain the spread of the virus in rural areas, he said the state government should form a committee at the panchayat level for proper monitoring, the BJP leader added.

While the number of daily COVID tests in Odisha is much less, an inordinate delay in getting the test results has also come to the fore. “The state government should make arrangements to provide the test results to the people on their mobile phones,” he pointed out.

The BJP leader also wanted to know the utilisation of financial assistance sanctioned by the Centre for COVID-19 vaccination in the rural areas.
