COVID Surge: Delhi Joins Odisha In Imposing Night Curfew

New Delhi: Delhi on Tuesday became the latest state to impose night curfew to check the resurgence of COVID-19 cases. Other states that have imposed night curfews are Odisha, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab and Gujarat.

Delhi

The Delhi government announced that a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am will be imposed from Tuesday. It will be in force till April 30.

This has been the toughest order by the Delhi government since the start of a fresh surge in coronavirus infections in the capital in March, NDTV reported.

A day earlier on Monday, Delhi recorded 3,548 fresh cases and 15 deaths.

Last week, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Delhi was going through the fourth wave of COVID-19 but a lockdown was not being considered yet.

“As per the current situation, we are not considering imposing a lockdown. We are closely monitoring the situation and such a decision will only be taken after due public consultation,” he had told the media.

Odisha

The state government has imposed night curfew in 10 districts in view of the recent spike in coronavirus cases. Night curfew has been imposed from 10 pm to 5 am in Sundergarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts.

Maharashtra

This is the worst-hit state by the pandemic. Minister Nawab Malik on Monday said a night curfew would be in place across the state from 8 pm to 7 am. On weekends, a complete lockdown (8 pm on Friday to 7 am on Monday) will be imposed, Mint reported.

The restrictions came into effect from 5 April. However, essential, medical services and transportation will be allowed. The curbs will also include a ban on gatherings of five or more people throughout the day.

Rajasthan

As per government guidelines, a night curfew will be enforced in Rajasthan from 8 pm to 6 am. Dining at restaurants and hotels during the curfew hours has been prohibited while home delivery of food has been allowed.

Gujarat

The Gujarat government has decided to extend the night curfew in four major cities — Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot — between 9 pm and 6 am. The curb will continue till 15 April.

Punjab

Amid the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases, the Punjab government has ordered to extend the existing COVID-19-related restrictions till April 10.

In an earlier order, the state government had announced a fresh set of measures. As part of the revised guidelines, the government has extended the night curfew from nine to 11 districts where the cases of infection are rising. The curfew will remain in place from 9 pm to 5 am.
