Bhubaneswar: For the first time in Odisha, the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) has decided to conduct the annual Plus II examination in high schools instead of the usual exam centres in view of the alarming rise of COVID-19 cases in the state.
In this regard, the Council asked the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) to send a list of the high schools that have successfully held the Matric exams. Accordingly, BSE has sent a list of 70 high schools.
Former CHSE Chairperson, Basudeb Chhatoi told the media that the Council usually holds the Plus II exams in around 1,200 centres every year. But as 3.48 lakh students will appear in the annual examination this year, it will not be possible to conduct the exams in these centres with the mandatory social distancing norm.
Hence, it will be better to include more high schools as examination centres for the safety of the students, he added.
“We have sufficient infrastructure. Apart from the high schools, the examinations can also be conducted in separate rooms in Plus III colleges and universities,” he pointed out.
As per schedule, the Plus II theory exams will be held from May 18 to June 12. The practical exams will be held from April 29 to May 8.
