COVID Surge: Two More Odisha Districts Slip Into Red Zone

Bhubaneswar: The number of districts tagged as COVID-19 red zone in Odisha went up to 19 on Saturday with two more districts reporting more than 1,000 active cases.

The two new districts are Nayagarh with 1,094 active cases and Rayagada with 1,025.

According to the Health and Family Welfare Department, the active cases in Odisha rose to 67,086 on Saturday. Of these, 87 per cent (52,396 cases) are in the 19 red zone districts.

Of the districts tagged as red zone, Khurda has the highest of 12,112 active cases followed by Sundargarh (6,737), Cuttack (4,543), Kalahandi (3,602), Jharsuguda (3,199), Bargarh (3,077), Puri (2,844), Sambalpur (2,795), Nuapada (2,743), Nabarangpur (2,602), Balangir (2,397), Jajpur (2,073), Angul (2,002), Mayurbhanj (1,788), Ganjam (1,490), Keonjhar (1,168), Balasore (1,105), Nayagarh (1094) and Rayagada (1025).

A zone is categorized as red if districts with the highest caseload contribute to more than 80 per cent of coronavirus cases for each state in the country or districts with a doubling rate of less than four days.
