Bhubaneswar: The COVID toll in Odisha surged to 6168 on Wednesday with confirmation of 66 more deaths due to the deadly disease.
The has been reporting over 60 COVID deaths for the last eight days.
The new fatalities are from 16 districts. These also include the patients who had succumbed in the months of May and June and the cause of their death was identified as COVID after an audit.
Among them, 18 are from Khurda district (including 11 from Bhubaneswar), 10 from Cuttack, 9 from Puri, 6 from Mayurbhanj, 5 from Angul, 3 each from Jharsuguda and Jajpur, 2 each from Bhadrak, Balangir and Nayagarh and one each from Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh and Kendrapada.
In terms of the total death count, Khurda district has reported the highest 1206 deaths followed by Sundargarh (539), Ganjam (450), Puri (384), Cuttack (376), Bargarh (290), Angul (267), Mayurbhanj (220), Kalahandi (201), Balasore (195), Sambalpur (176), Rayagada (159), Jharsuguda (160), Nayagarh (152), Kendrapada (146), Keonjhar (130), Dhenkanal (128), Jagatsinghpur (106), Boudh (105) and Balangir (105).
