New Delhi: CoWIN, the Union government’s app for COVID-19 vaccination, will use an Aadhaar-based authentication system for the rollout of the vaccine, to prevent malpractice.
The CoWIN system will help generate a Unique Digital Health ID for those being vaccinated.
Two COVID vaccines – Serum Institute of India’s Oxford-Astrazeneca and Bharat Biotech’s indigenously developed Covaxin – have been approved by the Drugs Controller General of India so far.
The government plans to kick off the vaccination programme next week.
Once someone get the two doses of the vaccine, a QR-code certificate will get stored on the government’s Digilocker app, said Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan.
The CoWIN system will help authorities report and track beneficiaries for any adverse affects after the vaccine is administered.
The system will also send SMS messages in 12 languages to guide people on vaccination process. There will be a 24×7 helpline and a chat bot for general assistance.
