Balangir: A video of beneficiaries being administered booster dose under a tree went viral sparking outrage among people in Odisha’s Balangir district.
They have demanded strict action against the erring officials as the vaccination drive was conducted in violation of the SOP.
The incident was reported from Brahmani Dunguri village under Magurbeda gram panchayat. The health team conduct the drive at the roadside under a tree after it found no space at the local Anganwadi centre, which was stocked with eggs and other things, sources said.
The guidelines, however, clearly state that there should be adequate space at the inoculation site, including the provision of waiting, vaccination and observation rooms.
Speaking to the media about the incident, Additional public health officer Dr Sudha Barla termed it unfortunate. “This is a serious issue and a probe will be conducted into the matter,” Additional district medical officer Dr Kuber Chandra Mahanta told TNIE.
It is pertinent to mention here that the 75-day special drive for free booster dose began across the country on July 15, 2022. The free shots are being given to the beneficiaries in 18-59 age group at all government vaccination centres.
