Cuttack: Security has been tightened and patrolling intensified by Commissionerate Police for Diwali and Kali Puja in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Monday.

According to sources, a preparatory meeting was held by Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra for Kali Puja at Jawahar Lal Nehru Indoor Stadium where all police station officers including and zonal ACPs were present.

Around 50 platoons of police force along with six additional DCPs and 300 police officers will be deployed in the city for Kali Puja.

This year, idols of Goddess Kali will be worshiped at 90 pandals in Cuttack. The puja  will begin on October 24 and the community celebration will continue at the pandals till October 28.

Meanwhile, the residents will be allowed to burst the firecrackers only for a period of two hours from 8 pm to 10 pm on Monday. Stringent action will be taken if any type of loud or chemical firecrackers are found to be used.

DCP Mishra has also appealed to the public to report any such cases to the nearest police station or police control room.

“More than 200 firecrackers sellers have been issued the license for the sale in around 27 locations in Cuttack district,” DCP Mishra told media.

He has further asked the people to buy branded firecrackers instead of locally made ones and to burst crackers with less than 125 decibels or else to burst noiseless crackers.
