Bhubaneswar: While continuing the tirade against the previous Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has been stressing on the policy of ‘zero tolerance’ towards corruption. As many as six chief engineers have been apprehended since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in the state.

Now, the question arises when will the BJP government take action after it came to power after vowing to wipe out corruption.
Arrest Can Be Made Anytime!
Speaking on the occasion of a function organised on the occasion of Vigilance Awareness Week, the Chief Minister has mounted a scathing attack on the previous Naveen Patnaik government. He asserted that the BJP government is committed to the policy of ‘zero tolerance’ towards corruption. While BJP came to power 140 days back, the CM claimed that many actions have been taken against corruption. As the beneficiaries of various welfare schemes are receiving money through DBT, corruption has been checked, he said. As many as six chief engineers have been arrested and forwarded to court. as many as 233 plots, 32 buildings, around six kg gold, bank deposits of Rs ten crore and Rs 21 lakh ill-gotten cash have been unearthed. Many top officials are now in jail for corruption. However, all these just present a trailer and the full film is yet to be screened, the CM said.
5T Corruption
Claiming that corruption was rampant during the 24 years of BJD rule, the Chief Minister alleged that the officials were indulging in irregularities without any fear. However, corrupt officials are no longer being protected, he asserted, and alleged that corrupt officials indulged in large scale corruption in the name of 5T initiative. All of them will be brought under the purview of thorough investigation.
Only Speech Or Action To Come?
The BJP has been targeting the BJD before the last elections. It vowed to take stringent action against corrupt leaders and officials if voted to power. The saffron party registered an impressive win to form government in Odisha primarily with its war cry against corruption. The Chief Minister and other Ministers have been warning of action against the corrupt. During his first visit to Keonjhar after assuming ossice, the Chief Minister has given a warning to mines mafia. However, no concrete action has so far been taken. While all Ministers have been targeting the previous government and former Ministers, observers wonder as to why action is being delayed.
When Will They Catch Big Players?
Six chief engineers have been arrested and their assets seized. However, when will the big players be caught? While BJP has been making allegations against BJD leaders like V K Pandian and Pranab Prakash Das, no steps has so far been taken to unearth any major irregularities even four months after the saffron party came to power. Pranab Das has challenged the BJP government to arrest him if he has done any corruption. Observers are of the view that people want action and not just tough utterances.
