Paralakhemundi: Cannabis plants grown illegally on a vast area were destroyed in Mohana area of Odisha’s Gajapati district on Thursday. The help cultivation was destroyed in a joint operation by the police and the Excise Department, sources said.
As per preliminary estimates, the market value of the destroyed cannabis plants is put at around Rs nine crore.
The operation was carried out following information about the illegal plantation at Bom village of Juka panchayat under Mohana police limits. The joint team destroyed about 90,000 ganja plants cultivated on 45 acres of land. The plants were set on fire.
Notably, police and the Excise department personnel carry out such joint operations every year. Their teams conduct raids and destroy cannabis plantation on hectares of land.
