Bhubaneswar: In a crackdown on illegal parking on the streets of Bhubaneswar, 135 vehicles were towed away by the traffic police in the last four days.
According to an official release, a special drive was initiated on November 23 against illegal parking. Apart from towing away the vehicles, Rs 67,500 fine was collected from the offenders. They also had to pay the charges for towing the vehicle.
The purpose behind this campaign of Bhubaneswar Urban Police is to make the public aware of illegal parking on the road, speeding, overloading, using mobile phones while driving, and driving without a helmet and seat belt.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on November 22 threatened to seal designated parking premises in residential and commercial complexes for violation of norms after inspections found that the vehicles were being parked on the streets in the city while the premises were put to commercial use.
