Cracks Appear In Gurupriya Bridge In Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri: The Works Department has started repairing a bridge over Gurupriya River in Malkangiri district after cracks appeared on the middle of the structure.

According to reports, the rods at the expansion joint on a girder of the bridge have twisted.

The Junior Engineer of Works Department, Suresh Chandra Mishra, however, said it is a minor repair that will be completed in two days. “There is a slight bend of the steel angle at the expansion joint on the girder in pillar no-16. We will replace this steel angle with a new angle,” Mishra added.

Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had inaugurated the 910-m-long Gurupriya bridge on July 26, 2018. The bridge connects 151 villages in seven panchayat areas in the cut-off area in Malkangiri district to the mainland.

The construction of the bridge had begun in 2014 and was built at a cost of Rs 187.25 crore.
