Craig Fulton Appointed Coach Of Indian Men’s Hockey Team

New Delhi: Hockey India (HI) has appointed Craig Fulton from South Africa as chief coach of the Indian men’s team.

He will succeed Graham Reid, who led India to its first Olympic medal in 41 years.

Fulton was serving as assistant coach with Olympic champions Belgium, who finished runners-up at the World Cup in Odisha in January.

The 48-year-old former international played 191 matches for South Africa between 1996 and 2005, including 1996 and 2004 Olympics and 2002 World Cup.

After coaching stints at various clubs in England, Ireland, and South Africa, Fulton became the head coach of Ireland in 2014 and lead the team to bronze at 2015 EuroHockey Championship. He received the 2015 FIH Men’s Coach of the Year award.

Four years later, he joined Belgium as an assistant to head coach Shane McLeod, helping them win the 2018 World Cup in Bhubaneswar. He was also part of the Belgian outfit that won the Tokyo Olympics gold.
