Bhubaneswar/Dhenkanal: The mortal remains of Odia jawan Ajit Sahu, who was martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast at Arihal village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on June 17, will be consigned to the flames with full state honour at his native village of Badasuanla in Kamakhayanagar block of Dhenkanal district on Thursday.
Sahu’s body arrived at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar around 1.30 am in a special flight. Later, it was taken to the 120 Infantry Battalion, where Army officials and jawans offered a Guard of Honour to the martyr. Governor Ganeshi Lal and BJD leaders Prafulla Mallick, Ranendra Pratap Swain, Ashok Panda and Anant Narayan Jena were among those who offered their tributes to the departed soul.
The body was later taken to Dhenkanal and kept at the mini stadium, where district collector Nikhil Paban Kalyan, the SP and other senior officials paid their tributes. After a Guard of Honour, the coffin carrying the body was taken in a procession to Badasuanla village for cremation with full state honours.
