Bengaluru: A severed human head was found on a cricket ground in Kodathi, under the Varthur police limits in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on Wednesday, triggering shock in the area and prompting an immediate police response.
According to police, a group of boys who had come to the ground early in the morning to play cricket noticed the head lying on the premises and alerted the Varthur police at once. Officers rushed to the spot and carried out a preliminary inspection, but the remaining part of the body has not yet been traced.
Police are checking CCTV footage from surrounding areas to establish how the head reached the ground. They suspect it may have been taken there on a motorcycle, as tyre marks believed to be of a two-wheeler were found at the scene, as reported by IANS.
Probe Underway
The Varthur police are gathering basic information and investigating the case, while the identity of the victim and the motive behind the crime remain unknown. The incident has caused panic among local residents as officers work to reconstruct the sequence of events.
The Bengaluru case comes against the backdrop of another gruesome incident in Tumakuru. On August 10, 2025, the severed head and dismembered body of a woman were found stuffed in multiple plastic bags along the road at Kolala village in Koratagere.
According to police, passersby first brought seven covers containing the woman’s body parts to their notice on August 7, and on August 8, Koratagere police searched the crime scene and recovered seven more plastic bags stuffed with body parts and the head.
Police identified the woman with the help of the head and later found that the bags had been scattered along the road connecting Chimpuganhalli and Venkatapura villages after the killers arrived in a car to dump the remains.
The victim was identified as 42-year-old Lakshmidevamma. Police arrested her son-in-law, local dentist Dr Ramachandrappa S., along with two accomplices, who allegedly admitted to dismembering the body to wipe out evidence after a family dispute.
