Mumbai: The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of Mumbai Police will investigate the Zanjeer copyright case.
Puneet Prakash Mehra, the son of renowned filmmaker late Prakash Mehra, had filed a case at Juhu Police Station last October alleging copyright violation against Box Cinema channel for showing the 1973 blockbuster — starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhaduri and Pran — without taking permission from the family.
The complaint stated that the Mehra family was sole holder of the copyright of the movie.
Mumbai Police conducted raids at Box Cinema offices earlier this week and seized the server owned by the company and other documents.
According to reports, police had arrested two people for allegedly providing the print of the film to the Box Cinema owner.
A police official was quoted as saying by India Today that Prakash Mehra’s fake signature had been used in a bogus purchase and sale agreement as copyright over the film by the accused.
