Criminal Injured In Police Encounter In Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police arrested a notorious criminal, involved in a recent dacoity case, after a brief encounter near Uttamapur area under Sadar police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district, on Friday night.

The accused, Manoj Moharana alias Mangu of Bhanpur under Sadar police limits in Cuttack., sustained bullet injury on his left thigh and is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital here.

According to sources, he was key member of the Tapu gang and the main accused in a dacoity at Kandarpur in which a businessman was looted of valuables. “He fired on the the IIC of Kandarpur and his team when they tried to intercept him near Uttamapur around 10.30 pm. He was hit in the thigh when the cops retaliated,” Additional DCP Anil Mishra told the media.

Manoj is involved several other criminal cases, 8 dacoity cases and illegal arms trade, and further investigation is underway, he added.
