Puri: A criminal was injured in an encounter with police on Puri-Bhubaneswar National Highway in Puri district late on Sunday.
Sanjay Behera, who sustained bullet injuries on his right leg, was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
According to reports, a special squad of Puri police receive information about presence of the criminal in the area and intercepted him near Biragobindpur in the district. Police fired on Behera when he attempted to flee the spot sensing trouble.
He was allegedly involved in several criminal cases, including the recent Vasu Pradhan firing case, police sources informed.
