Sambalpur: A criminal, who had stabbed police constable a week ago, was critically injured after being shot at during an encounter with police in a forest near Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Thursday.
The miscreant, identified as Kamalu Pradhan, suffered bullet injuries on his right leg. He was admitted to Burla Hospital for treatment and his condition is stated to be stable.
Sources said the encounter took place in Katapali forest where Pradhan hid himself after committing the crime. Following a tip-off, a police team raided the place. When police tried to capture him, he attacked the police team, causing injury to a sub-inspector.
In elf-defence, the police opened control fire and the miscreant sustained injury in the process, a police official said.
Pradhan is a driver by profession and always in violent scuffles in his village over petty issues.
