Bhubaneswar: Noted Odia music director Abhijit Majumdar was shifted to AIIMS in Bhubaneswar on Thursday as his condition deteriorated while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack.
He was brought here in an ambulance on ventilator support.
“Having multiple comorbid conditions (Hypertension, Hypothyroidism, chronic liver disease), admitted to AIIMS emergency today at 10 am in a comatose state, on ventilator support. He was shifted to medical ICU at 12 noon for further management. At present, he is critically ill, in comatose condition, having pneumonia, on ventilator support. His vitals (BP and Pulse) are stable,” the hospital said in a medical update this evening.
Sources said that the 54-year-old music director fell ill while performing at music programmes during Ganesh Puja celebrations on August 27. He was admitted to the ICU of the hospital in Cuttack’s CDA on August 31 after tests showed a significant fall in the sodium levels. “Since he showed no signs of improvement, we decided to shift him to a better health facility,” said Orissa Cine Artistes Association general secretary Sritam Das.
He further stated that Majumdar went into deep sleep after he was initially prescribed medicines for low sodium as those exerted pressure on his organs.
Das, however, denied any delay on part of his family members in providing him treatment.
Abhijit Majumdar is one of the most popular music composers in Odisha. He has composed more than 700 songs for music albums and Odia as well as Sambalpuri film industries. His popular works include music for Love Story, Sister Sridevi, Golmaal Love, Sundargarh Ra Salman Khan and Sriman Surdas.
