Bhadrak: The people of a village in Odisha’s Bhadrak district are in a panic after a crocodile came to the banks of a river several times in the last few days.
According to sources, the villagers staying along the banks of Gameri river spotted the crocodile many times. Since the villagers, mostly women, go to the river for bathing and washing clothes, they apprehended threat from the crocodile and informed the Forest department.
After verifying the presence of the crocodile in the river, the forest department to put up notice boards with warning along the river banks. The boards have warned the people against venturing into the river.
Besides, the Forest officials have been carrying out campaign to caution the villagers through public address systems.
The villagers said since water has accumulated at different places along the river embankment following thundershowers on Saturday, the reptile my sneak into the village under its cover at night. They were unable to sleep at night in fear of the crocodile, they added.
