Puri: A crocodile spotted in Rajua river near Kanas in Odisha’s Puri district triggered panic among locals on Friday.
According to sources, villagers who had gone for bathing spotted the crocodile swimming between Tirulam and Haladiapada areas.
Soon after the news spread, village heads barred people from going near Rajua river and alerted forest department personnel.
Sources added, the reptile was frequenting the river bank which compounded their fear. The villagers urged forest personnel to capture and release it somewhere safe.
Forest department sources said the crocodile would have swam into Rajua from the Daya river. Till last reports came, efforts were on to shift it to a separate location.
