Bhubaneswar: Considered Odisha’s first automated crowd-funding web application for medical emergencies, Twamashrita Foundation has extended financial assistance to two patients under treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

This is the first such crowd-funding initiative of Twamashrita Foundation (www.twamashrita.org), a press release said on Tuesday. The foundation has an automated crowd-funding site for medical emergencies as well as transgender communities, educationally underprivileged and animals.

22-year-old Barsha Das from Samantarapur in Puri district and Siddhanta Mohanty (15) from Kandhamal were the recipients of the assistance.

While Barsha is suffering from a severed arm from an accident during an agricultural operation, Sidhant is undergoing treatment for the rare Crouzan Syndrome, a genetic disorder where the pupils keep growing out of the eye socket.

People with knowledge of the crowd-funding website expressed interest in helping out and on Sunday both received assistance of Rs 20,000 each to continue treatment. Barsha and Siddhant have expressed gratitude for the support, it said.

The website is developed by SDM Software Solutions led by a group of software professionals who have shifted to Odisha from the US to dedicate themselves to social service, the release added.
