Phulbani: A jawan of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan died after allegedly consuming pesticide at his residence in Odisha’s Kandhamala district on Tuesday.
The incident took place at Nuasahi in Baliguda area of the district. The deceased, identified as Ashok Kumar Behera, was re
portedly posted in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. He had recently come home on a visit.
The incident came to light after Behera did not respond to repeated phone calls of his friends, who informed the local police about the matter.
After receiving information, a team of police personnel reached the scene and called for Behera many times. As he still did not respond, the police broke open the door of his residence in the presence of a magistrate.
Finding Behera in a critical state, police personnel immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, he succumbed while undergoing treatment.
It is being suspected that Behera had consumed pesticide. However, the exact reason behind his death would be established after a post-mortem, sources said.
Police seized his body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. A detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact reason behind the extreme step taken by the jawan.
