Rayagada: A Centrel Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer died allegedly after shooting himself from his service revolver in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Sunil Kumar, Assistant Commandant at the 4th Battalion Headquarter in Rayagada town, sources said. He was the second in command at the battalion.
Sunil Kumar, who hailed from Bihar, was staying at the CRPF Camp in Indranagar area of Rayagada for the last two years.
Senior police officials along with a scientific team rushed to the site after getting information.
While the officer was suspected to have committed suicide, the reason behind the extreme step taken by him is yet to be ascertained.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and further details are awaited.
