Nuapada: A gunfight broke out between members of a banned Maoist outfit and security personnel in the dense forests of Sunabeda Sanctuary near Barkote Ghat in Odisha’s Nuapada district in the early hours of Friday.
According to sources, the exchange of fire took place between 5 am and 5.30 am while the CRPF personnel were returning from Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary after a combing operation.
The security forces retaliated to the firing by the ultras near Barkote Ghat, leading to a brief exchange of fire. The Maoists, however, managed to escape into the dense forest. No injury from either side has been reported so far.
The security personnel have resumed search operation in the area following the incident, the sources added.
