Canada PM Mike Carney arrives in India

Mumbai: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney arrived in Mumbai on Friday on a four-day official visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

Over the next two days, Carney will participate in business engagements and interact with Indian and Canadian CEOs, industry leaders, financial experts, innovators, educators, and representatives of Canadian pension funds operating in India.

Carney will fly to New Delhi on March 1. He will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House on March 2.

The two leaders are expected to review progress under the I

ndia-Canada Strategic Partnership, building on their earlier meetings in Kananaskis in June 2025 and Johannesburg in November 2025.

The discussions will cover key areas including trade and investment, energy, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research and innovation, and people-to-people ties. Modi and Carney will also exchange views on regional and global developments, the MEA said.

The two leaders will attend the India-Canada CEOs Forum scheduled on March 2.

Carney’s visit comes at an important juncture when India-Canada bilateral relations are poised for a reset. The two Prime Ministers earlier agreed to pursue a constructive and balanced partnership grounded in mutual respect for each other’s concerns and sensitivities, strong people-to-people ties, and growing economic complementarities.

The forthcoming meeting between the leaders will provide an opportunity to reaffirm the positive momentum and shared vision of India and Canada in building a forward-looking partnership, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
