Sambalpur: With the Odisha government claiming that no major incident of violence has been reported in Sambalpur in the last 48 hours, the administration has further relaxed the curfew.
An order issued by Sambalpur sub-collector stated that the restrictions due to curfew will be relaxed from 7.30 am to 11.30 am and 3.30 pm to 6 pm. The order, which will come into effect from Monday, aims at enabling the people to go out for their daily activities.
The district administration on Saturday had announced relaxation of curfew for two hours each in morning and evening on Sunday. The decision was taken in view of several job related examinations scheduled for the day.
In another development, the district administration has extended the holiday for the schools for two more days. The state government had earlier declared closure of all schools from April 12 to 16 due to the prevailing heatwave condition. The Sambalpur administration announced that the schools in the district will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday also.
Earlier, additional chief secretary Satyabrata Sahu told the media that the situation in Sambalpur city was normal with no untoward incident reported in the past 48 hours. All steps were being taken to restore normalcy the city and around 3,000 candidates could go to appear at different examinations held at the test centres in the city on Sunday, he said.
It may be noted that some miscreants pelted stones at a motorcycle rally that was taken out on April 12 ahead of Hanuman Jayanti in the city. It led to a clash between two groups. Many shops and vehicles were set on fire during the clash.
