Kendrapara: The Kendrapara district administration lifted curfew in Kendrapara town at 6 am on Friday morning following a meeting with members of two communities on Thursday evening.
Talking to mediapersons here, Kendrapara SP, Niti Sekhar said the prohibitory order under Section 144 of the IPC will remain in force till normalcy is fully restored.
Stating that members of the two communities will take out a peace rally in the town later in the day, he said the district administration and the police will have a meeting with the think-tanks of the town to ensure that such events do not occur again.
The district administration had clamped curfew in the town on Thursday following a clash near the Kali Temple. Police later resorted to a mild lathi charge and dispersed the mob.
Taking stock of the situation, Central Range IG, Soumendra Priyadarshi had a meeting with members of two communities in the presence of the district collector and SP.
At the meeting, everyone unanimously agreed to restore normalcy in the town.
The district administration assured the two communities that it will have another meeting with them on the original dispute over which tension had prevailed in the town on Wednesday.
