Bhubaneswar: A passenger at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar has levelled serious allegations of bribery against a customs official.
Kuppusamy Nagarajan, who arrived from Bangkok on flight No FD 112 on Tuesday night, alleged that he was asked to pay a “bribe” of Rs 5,000 for carrying gold even after he produced legal documents.
He and his friends have lodged a complaint saying that during custom clearance, a customs official took Rs 5,000 from him as custom duty for the gold but gave him no receipt. When Nagarajan exited from the airport terminal and narrated the incident to his friends, that the customs officials did not give him any receipt for the Rs 5,000, they all gathered near the arrival gate and started arguing with customs officials and threatened to lodge a police complaint unless they returned the money and also that they would inform mediapersons.
After some time, customs officials returned the said amount and the friends returned home.
Sources said the GST Additional commissioner has ordered an investigation into the incident.
