Cuttack: The Cuttack administration has declared Bali Jatra ground as a ‘No Drone Zone’ from November 1 to 15 in view of security concerns in the aftermath of tensions that flared in the city, resulting in 48-hour internet shutdown and 36-hour curfew.
The restriction, covering a 5-km radius around the Lower and Upper Bali Yatra grounds, bans flying devices like drones, UAVs, para-gliders, para-motors, power hang gliders, micro light aircraft, and hot air balloons.
The order has been issued under Section 14(1) of the BNSS Act, 2023, read with Section 163, in the interest of public safety and to ensure the smooth conduct of the historic festival to be attended by VVIPs and VIPs. This measure is aimed at preventing any aerial threats, security breaches, or accidents during the event, which is expected to draw over 50 lakh visitors this year.
“Any violation of this order will lead to seizure of the prohibited items,” the order issued by Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde said.
It further noted that prior permission from the District Collector’s office is required for any approved use of aerial devices.
Bali Jatra, which commemorates the rich maritime history of Odisha, will take place from November 5 to 12. It is being organised on a grand scale, spanning over 60 acres across the Lower and Upper Bali Jatra grounds.
