Cuttack: The Millennium City is set to set to roll out a digital door numbering (DDN) system for residential houses and commercial establishments.
Under the new system, each house will be given a 14 digit alphanumeric code as an identification number. This will contain information on the house’s exact location with coded details of its address, nearby landmark, sub-road and main road.
As a preparatory step, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has launched a ward-wise survey for implementing the DDN system.
“We have started conducting the survey at Mahanadi Vihar. Over 1,000 houses and business establishments have been covered so far. The survey work is expected to be completed by December,” CMC Deputy Commissioner Ajay Mohanty was quoted as saying by The New Indian Express.
According to the CMC official, the new system will benefit residents with faster resolution of civic issues.
If a resident lodges a complaint relating to waterlogging, garbage collection, etc., CMC officials can easily identify the location and reach the spot by using the DDN system, Mohanty said.
It will also help the CMC with better revenue collection pertaining to holding tax and trade licence fees.
The DDN system will facilitate in locating the exact address of a house or commercial establishment and thereby help the civic body to detect tax defaulters, Mohanty said.
Earlier in February, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation had launched a similar digital door numbering system in three city wards.
