Cuttack: A ward attendant was arrested for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a 23-year-old woman patient in the Medicine department ICU of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack city.
Police said the accused, identified as Manas Ranjan Pati (30) of Jajpur di
strict, was drunk on Sunday night when he removed the patient’s saline bottle under the pretext of changing it and tried to sexually assault her.
The family of the woman lodged a complaint at Mangalabag police station after she narrated the incident to her mother the next morning. Based on the complaint, Pati was arrested by the police on Tuesday from hospital premises.
He reportedly confessed to the crime, citing alcohol as the reason. Pati was produced in court, denied bail and sent to judicial custody.
The accused was reportedly engaged in the hospital by a private manpower consultancy firm. Hospital authorities said steps will be taken to dismiss the accused.
