Cuttack: In a major crackdown, the Police on Monday arrested three robbers and a goldsmith involved in a series of temple loot cases in Cuttack.

The masterminds of the gang, Seikh Piru and his son-in-law, Seikh Harun, are among those arrested persons.

A goldsmith was also arrested for buying the stolen articles from them.

According to the sources, the Darakhapatna Durga temple under Madhupatna Police limits was robbed on January 28. Apart from this, two other temples were also targeted at different locations.

The Cuttack Madhupatana police seized stolen articles, a scooter, two mobile phones, articles used in the crime from their possession, and cash worth Rs 1 lakh.

“Three temples were burgled. During the investigation, we achieved success in the Darakhapatna temple loot case. We have arrested four persons- three burglars and one who received the booty from them. They had melted the goddess’s silver crown. Besides this molten silver, we have seized other ornaments, a scooter, and a crowbar from them,” said Cuttack ADCP Anil Mishra.
