Cuttack Trader Arrested For Marketing Synthetic Paneer

Cuttack: A day after the seizure of more than a quintal of synthetic paneer from a Cuttack-bound private bus, police on Thursday arrested a local trader Sukadeba Sahu in this connection.

Police registered a case under Sections 272, 273, 420 and 34 of IPC and under Sections, 51, 52, 53 and 59 of Food Safety Standards Act.

The accused will be forwarded to court later in the day after interrogation, police said.

Preliminary investigation has revealed the complicity of 2 to 3 persons in the preparation of spurious paneer.

The bus was coming from Kolkata when Chauliaganj Police and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) officials seized it.

According to police, the accused used to prepare the synthetic paneer using stale milk, uric acid, toilet cleaner and several carcinogenic chemicals. The traders used to purchase the spurious paneer at a throwaway price and sell it in the neighbouring districts.
