Bhubaneswar/Shillong: Rising Student Club from Cuttack outplayed defending champions Eastern Sporting Union, Manipur, on penalties to win Hero Indian Women’s League (IWL) at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong.
It was a encore of sorts for the football team from Cuttack, which had beat KRYHPSA 4-3 in the semi-finals in a penalty shoot-out on April 12.
Rising Student Club also avenged last year’s defeat with this win in the finals.
Seven teams had clashed in the second edition of the tournament which started on March 25, with Eastern Sporting Union taking on Indira Gandhi Academy for Sports & Education in the opening match.
