Gold Coast: Olympic medal winner Sushil Kumar didn’t disappoint India’s run at the Gold Coast Games and added another gold medal in the men’s freestyle wrestling 74 kg category.
Sushil got the better off South Africa’s Johannes Botha to claim his third successive gold in the Games.
Rahul Aware too added the gold in wrestling after defeating Canada’s Steven Takahashi 15-7.
“I have been waiting for this medal for the last 10 years. I missed out on 2010 and 2014, as the team was sent without trials. So, I am very happy that I could finally fulfil this dream,” said the 26-year-old Aware, as reported by national media.
Meanwhile, defending champion Babita Phogat (53kg) had to pacify herself with a silver after she lost to Canada’s Diana Weicker.
In hockey, the women’s team failed to get past the mighty Australians and lost 0-1. They will now face England for the bronze medal match.
