Bhubaneswar: Cyber Crime Help Desk of the Commissionerate Police has recovered defrauded amount of Rs 3 lakh by freezing the bank account of a fraudster.
The victim, Basant Chhatar residing at Balakati area in Bhubaneswar had fallen in the trap of online fraudsters and lost Rs 3.17 lakh. He was offered installation of a telecom tower on his land.
For the purpose, Chhatar paid Rs 3.17 lakh in 30 installments. But, when the promised tower was not installed and there was no news from the people who made the offer, Chhatar felt anxious and approached Commissionerate Police Cyber Crime Help Desk for help.
The cyber desk got in touch with the fraudster expressing interest to get a telecom tower installed on their premises. The fraudster fell in the trap. He was asked to provide bank account number for depositing the money he had demanded.
On getting the bank account number, it was immediately frozen and Rs 3 lakh recovered.
