Bhubaneswar: Online shopping landed a woman being a victim of cyber criminals in Odisha capital on Saturday.
According to sources, the woman had purchased a bedsheet from the online site of Indian e-commerce company Flipkart. After her ordered item was delivered to her, she paid its cost through the digital payment service provider PhonePe.
On opening the delivered parcel, she found the bedsheet to be damaged and called up the toll-free customer service number of Flipkart to return it. During her talks over phone, the person, who responded to the call, sought details of her bank account. Without suspecting anything, she furnished the information.
After some time, she received a message from the bank that Rs 20,000 had been debited from her account. Since she had not withdrawn the amount, she knew that she had been cheated and filed a complaint at Kharvel Nagar police station in this regard.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
