Kandhamal: Children and mobile phones have become synonymous these days and so have cases of cyber fraud. In what could be called child’s play gone wrong, a man lost over Rs 4 lakh to cyber fraud, thanks to his son’s misadventure with the phone.
According to the police, a Class XII science student downloaded an app on his father’s mobile and he subsequently clicked on some suspicious links. This finally led his father, a senior forest official, to lose Rs 4.42 lakh to scamsters.
Posted in Forest Training School at Kandhamal’s G Udaigiri, the victim said, “My son downloaded some family loan app and entered the details like his Aadhar number and also our bank accounts. From thereon, the fraudsters guided him to avail of loans on low interest, which lured my son and he applied for Rs 60,000 loan.”
The miscreants reportedly convinced the boy into paying up money as processing fees and other charges and by and by managed to get a huge amount transferred to their account. Later, when the father had his phone back with him, he found Rs 4.42 lakh in total siphoned off from his account.
On the basis of the plaint, police have registered a case and an investigation is underway to trace the fraudsters.
