Bhubaneswar: Odisha IPS officer Susanta Kumar Nath’s wife Anuja Tripathy, a doctor by profession, is the latest victim of cyber fraud.

She has lodged a complaint with the Crime Branch’s cyber cell in Cuttack, alleging that some unidentified persons siphoned off Rs 10.10 lakh from her salary account in the last two years.

Though the fraudsters have been committing the crime since 2019, Anuja came to know about the same only on Tuesday and immediately approached the Crime Branch.

“I am in no way responsible for these unauthorised transactions. Many of these transactions have been done through my SBI debit card to some unknown accounts. I did not receive a single message or intimation on my registered mobile number about the withdrawal of money from my account,” Tripathy said in her complaint.

According to her complaint, she had come across an unauthorised transaction of Rs 2,000 from her debit card on March 15, 2019. She then contacted the bank and got her card blocked to prevent further damage. The debit card was unblocked on April 26, 2019, after proper verification.

“I am not regularly operating this account. Only my salary is being credited to the account. Recently, I came to know about at least 31 unauthorised transactions from my account in the last two years. Some of the transactions are up to Rs 90,000, which is beyond the limit of transactions fixed by me. I had no clue about the unauthorised transactions as I did not receive any alert on my mobile phone,” she mentioned in her complaint.

She has also lodged complaints with the bank ombudsman and urged them to refund her lost money.

Crime Branch is investigating the matter. “We have registered a case and are examining the transactions. We strongly suspect someone may have got access to her debit card details and PIN. Normally such debit card frauds happen only when the users share their PINs with others,” a Crime Branch officer was quoted as saying by TOI.
