Angul: A cyber fraudster was arrested Jharkhand on Thursday for allegedly duping Bandhan Bank’s branch manager in Odisha’s Angul of around Rs seven lakh.
The accused, arrested by Angul police team from Jamtara area in Jharkhand, is being brought to Odisha. The fraudster was arrested and Rs 1 lakh seized from the accused with the help of Jamtara cyber crime branch.
Sources said the fraudster had duped Bandhan Bank branch manager Manas Ranjan Khuntia of lakhs of rupees by impersonating an official of a mobile phone service providing company.
The bank official got a phone call a few days ago and the fraudster identified himself as an official of a mobile phone service-providing company. He asked the bank official to change his SIM card from 4G to 5G. After convincing him about the plan, the fraudster sent a link to the bank official’s phone and asked him to share the link on a given number.
After the bank official followed the instruction, he found that money was getting debited from his account in phases. Around Rs seven lakh was debited from his account.
The bank official filed an FIR in Angul police station following which an investigation was launched into the incident and the fraudster was arrested.
