Berhampur: Cyber fraudsters have allegedly duped an 88-year-old man of more than Rs 6 lakh from his bank account in the last few days in Odisha’s Berhampur.
Sukanto Patro of Old Christian Street claimed he had lost Rs 6,03,301 in 11 transactions between November 22 and December 1 without him sharing his bank details or OTP with anyone.
Patro said he came to know about the fraudulent transactions on December 2 when he visited the bank to enquire about his pension as he did not receive any message from the bank related to the money being credited for a month. However, when he updated his passbook, he learnt about the fraud. After he lodged a police complaint, an investigation was initiated into the incident.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (SP) Berhampur Sarvana Vivek M said as per his knowledge it was not possible to make fraudulent transactions without sharing any bank account details.
“In most cases, the victims are seen to have disclosed the OTP or other account details to criminals, resulting in the fraud,” SP told media.
