Bhadrak: Wife of an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Odisha Police too has fallen prey cyber fraud.
ASI Bijay Kumar Bahali lodged a complaint with the cyber cell after Rs 49,600 was fraudulently withdrawn from the bank account of his wife in Bhadrak.
Bahali stated in his complaint that the cyber fraudsters mopped up the money on the pretext of credit card activation and validation.
Some bank staff first contacted her over phone for credit card. After initial refusals, she agreed, said Bahali and added his wife subsequently received another call where she was told that her credit card would become invalid if she didn’t activate it.
Following the protocol Bahali’s wife told the callers she activate the card at the bank but the callers did not give up and again contacted her. “This time she shared the OTP as the fraudsters revealed her name, date of birth and other confidential information,” said Bahali.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the ASI said that bank has taken action against the staff member who was found out to have made the call.
