Kendrapada: An SUV, carrying Class X students, overturned after hitting a cyclist near Krushnanagar Chhak under Talchua Marine police limits in Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Friday morning.
While the cyclist, identified as Subrat Mandal, died on the spot, 11 students were injured in the accident and later admitted to a hospital at Talchua.
According to sources, the accident took places when the students of Vivekananda High School at Baghamari were on their way to a matric examination centre at Naga Narayan High School at Khamara Sahi. After hitting the bicycle rider, the vehicle fell into a roadside canal and overturned.
Tension prevailed in the area and locals gheraoed the police as they were arresting the driver of the SUV.
Sources further said that the condition of one girl student is critical. Some of the injured students were later allowed to appear for the exam despite the delay in arrival due to the unexpected incident.
The annual high school examination or matriculation examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education began in Odisha on Friday.
