Paradip: The Paradip Port Trust (PPT) authorities have stepped up preemptive measures in view of the approaching super cyclonic storm Amphan, PPT chairman Rinkesh Roy said on Tuesday.
“There will be no operations in the port from Tuesday evening as the IMD has warned strong wind and heavy rains from Tuesday midnight,” Roy said.
Barring some staff in the critical departments, no other person will be allowed on the premises. “We have closed the port after sanitizing the entire premises on Tuesday morning,” he added.
Ship Entry Barred
The PPT chairman also informed that the entry of incoming ships to the port has been restricted since May 17. Besides, 20 cargo ships anchored at the port have been shifted from the port area. Besides, trucks on the port premises been left on Monday night.
Drains Cleaned
Roy said that all drains in the port township area have been cleaned for quick discharge of stagnant water.
Cyclone Centres Ready
Six cyclone shelters were kept ready with adequate stock of dry ration and cooked food as well as uninterrupted supply of power and drinking water. To provide emergency medical service to the people, PPT has formed a medical team with ambulance van.
“Keeping the COVID-19 situation, we have taken the necessary steps to strictly adhere to the social distancing norms. We will provide the mask to all the people who will stay at these shelters,” the PPT chairman said.
He added that four teams have been formed to clear the roads after the cyclone passes the Paradip coast.
